Car accidents: Fatal crash in Texas kills teens

A tragic crash in Georgetown claimed one young life and sent four other people to local hospitals, according to Texas law enforcement authorities. The crash occurred in Central Texas on State Highway 130. As with many car accidents of this type, this one is still under investigation. So far, no charges have been brought against the driver involved.

According to the accident report, a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old and occupied by four other teenagers aged 16 to 18 was traveling south on 130, just south of State Highway 29, when the accident occurred. It appears the young driver attempted to pass a slower vehicle at a high rate of speed. When the other vehicle attempted to compensate, the teen driver lost control of the car. The vehicle left the highway before flipping several times and coming to rest on its roof in a creek bed.

Three teens, who were not believed to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, were ejected from the vehicle. An 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 16-year-old remains in ICU and a 17-year-old escaped with only minor injuries. Two other teens were trapped in the vehicle and were rescued by Georgetown Fire Department personnel. Their injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Texas authorities have yet to determine the cause of this crash, but as with all car accidents, they are not assuming anything without evidence. The investigation will continue until a cause has been found, but in the meantime, the family of the deceased and the families of the injured parties may choose to file wrongful death and/or personal injury lawsuits against the driver. Anyone with ownership interest in the vehicle could also be named as defendants in the suit as well.
